Latex meets Lost in Translation in February Trash’s new photo series
In a meshing of two rather distinct styles, Joi Li and Madeleine Ray have teamed up on a delectable series of photos showcasing February Trash Latex designs. Throughout the series, muted hues compete with dark, erotic shots in a manner that is more than just a little reminiscent of Coppola’s Lost in Translation. Not to mention the karaoke, or the Tokyo shooting location…
This collection shows the depth possessed by fashion designer, Joi Li. The powerful floor-length, black latex gown contrasts with the sheer, mini dress accessorised with diamante nipple covers and frilly garters. It is not merely the clothes that contrast, but the location too. From the domestic settings of the bedroom and bathroom to the busy bars, the team brings the private into the public. Living within this juxtaposition is clearly a designer who is not afraid to blur boundaries. Moreover, the lack of definition between the pinks, greens, and whites creates a surreal, dreamland atmosphere where anything is possible. Such an aesthetic was made possible by Madeleine’s soft, celestial style, which acts as a mellowing force upon the potency of the 100% natural latex designs.
The see-through latex is a hallmark of February Trash Latex, acting at once as a window and a barrier to what lies beneath. Although that is not to say that the brand doesn’t delve into colour. The made-to-measure designs can be seen in an array of colours on the website, from silver to red to purple. The next time you duck into a Tokyo karaoke bar, keep your eyes peeled; you might just catch a glimpse of some ultra-sleek latex flitting through the crowds.
